Five Favorite Items from Rio’s Product Managers!

Rio Grande’s product managers shop the world to bring you the most exciting new stuff out there. I asked each of them (there are five) to give me a product they’re excited about so we can share it with you. Here’s what they chose:

Chocolate Organic Fiber Necklace Bust

This brand-new handmade organic necklace bust is sculpted in paper, then wrapped in deep brown woven fibers, creating a smooth, shiny finish. Our display and packaging product manager likes this display because it provides a large canvas for one to paint their display on. It’s got a natural, current look and it works well with a single showpiece or with layers of necklaces.

Sunshine Polishing Buffs

Our product manager for finishing and polishing selected the Sunshine Polishing Buffs, which are one of the hottest additions to the 2012 Tools Catalog.

Available from 3” up to 6” diameter, with pinhole or leather centers, these buffs polish to a beautiful shine without any polishing compound. The secret is the non-scratch micro abrasives that have made the Sunshine® Cloth such a popular item for years and years. I was watching as this item came together last year, and can tell you that few new items generate as much excitement as this one did when we saw how well it worked. Check it out!

Sterling Silver Gallery Wire Bezel Cups

Findings selected new sterling silver gallery wire bezel cups, made right here at our facility in Albuquerque! Bezel cups provide an easy way to set your stones and finish with clean lines and professional-looking results. With walls modeled from our gallery wire, these bezel cups add distinctive flair to any design. Use with cabochons for everything from earrings to pendants.

Bill Fretz Metalsmith Essentials DVDs

From our education department, we bring you the Fretz Metalsmith Essentials DVDs, which were introduced last fall, and which are already the best-selling DVDs in our catalog. Here’s a clip from volume two:

Light Green Moissanite

Our product manager for gemstones selected the new Light Green Moissanite from Charles & Colvard. Stored away in vaults and only recently made available, this sparkling light green Moissanite emerged from the early laboratory processes for creating moissanite—with all the fire and beauty of moissanite plus the vibrancy of color! The technology has so improved in recent years that the incidence of this lovely pastel shade has essentially disappeared. Rio Grande recently acquired a large batch of these jewels and will offer them for as long as the supply lasts.

And there you have it! Five products from five Product Managers. Have you bought any of these, or are you eyeing one of them? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Wow, how to choose! What I like most about this post is that products are brought to my attention that I may have missed on the huge website. Can’t wait to try the polishing buffs. They look so thick. I am deinately buying the Moissanite. I have only recently started using metal clays (bronze and copper). I’m having a great time with my new kiln. I’ll be trying out the fine silver PMC and will use this stone in a design. I have been pouring over Lisa Barth’s book “Designing From The Stone” (c. 2011) which brings me to the silver bezels. Down the road I plan to do more forming with the metals I’m making. I especially want to get into rivet attachments and hinges. Bill Fretz’s DVD’s look most interesting, hmm. Thanks to Rio Grande for all the great info you put online. I have learned so much in a relatively short period of time.
