We love to see what our customers are making and selling on Etsy and we love learning which products help them do it. Sherry Jones’ store, The Dancing Gecko, has us oohing and ahhing with delight. Sherry lives in the beautiful mountains of Prescott, Arizona and is a self-taught jewelry artist. She loves to work with different sheet metals and wires, such as copper, brass, nickel, and sterling silver.
Her favorite metal to work with is brass, especially when it's been oxidized and tumbled to a beautiful shine. “It has such richly deep tones," she says.
When we spoke, Sherry delved into the story of how her passion for making jewelry began, “One day, about five years ago, I bought a new outfit and looked for something to match in jewelry—couldn't find a thing!" She says, “So I decided to try to make a necklace to match. Low and behold, I was hooked! And I haven't stopped since. Hence, The Dancing Gecko was born!”
Sherry is proud of one piece in particular, called "Low Tide." It features an ocean jasper pendant encircled with swirls of brass and copper wires. “I loved to mix the metals, they seemed to really complement each other very nicely,” she says of the piece.
Another of her favorites (and mine too!) is called "Spiral," made with a charoite gemstone pendant that she created out of brass wire and brass sheet metal. The chain is completely handmade with brass wire, sterling bezel, and gemstones.
When I asked Sherry about her favorite Rio product, she had a lot to say.
I've been purchasing from Rio Grande for a few years now and I have never been disappointed with the products I've received. Also, the customer service is wonderful.
My favorite, of course, are the sheet metals and the wire, in all metals. Also, I'm happy that you're carrying the sterling silver filled wire and sheet metals. I love the packaging of the wire, so nice and neat and great pricing. As you can tell from my "Low Tide," I also like rivets. I purchased both sizes of the Crafted Findings Riveting System (the regular and the long-reach) from Rio, and I absolutely love them! My "Low Tide" is currently being displayed at a local gallery (Tis Art Gallery in Prescott, AZ) and is temporarily on vacation from my Etsy Shop.
