Want to add a fun and playful twist of color to your pieces? With the MIDAS System for Kliar E-Coating, you can achieve eye-popping color and make a statement with your jewelry. Sixteen colors are available, and they can be mixed to create your very own color palette. With seasonal color trends always changing, now you can have your jewelry remain on the forefront of fashion.

Check out this video to see how easy Kliar E-Coating is.

With Kliar E-Coating, you can create bold colored jewelry. It’s simple and is sure to make a statement. Similar to the electroplating process, e-coating can be achieved in a few minutes followed by a thirty-minute oven cure. Your pieces come out lustrous, ready to assemble and wear. Kliar E-Coating contains nano-ceramic particles that can coat metals such as gold, silver, bronze, brass, copper, stainless steel, nickel, and even titanium and aluminum.

Mix and match your silver and gold pieces with vivid colors. With exceptional durability and abrasion resistance, Kliar transparent e-coating can be also applied for protection over previously silver, gold, and rhodium plating to increase the life of the piece.

E-Coating not only is abrasion- and tarnish-resistant, it has an even finish with no pooling or gapping. This increasingly popular alternative to lacquering and other protective coating is sure to make your creations stand out.

“The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”

  1. Does the process emit any toxic fumes, or leave any toxic residue in the oven?

  2. Hi Mary, the Kliar Nano Ceramic E-Coating solutions are organic pigments in a water based e-coating lacquer and are used at room temperature when applying the coating. So there are no toxic fumes present. I have not experienced any traces of residue in the oven, however you should always have a seperate oven for any curing processes or baking of items not meant to ingest. During the curing in the oven, there is a odor which I would recommend ventilating. Hope this helps! Ashli B Tech

  3. Have you tried this on bronzclay that has a patina or any metal with heat patina or regular patina to see if it changes the colors using Kliar Clear?

    Thanks!

  4. I work a lot myself in Bronzclay so that was one of my first experiments. I actually use the transparent over my bronzclay pieces with patina, to hold the patina in place, prevent further tarnishing and protect my skin from turning green. It darkens the patina ever so slightly just as some lacquers would. As for the pigment or colored Kliar on bronzclay, its one of my favorites! Since the coating solution itself is transparent the color of the base metal will alter the color of the coating. Over bronze, the e-coating is similar to the color palette of bold Crayola markers.

  5. I am very much interested in this process to brighten up my designs! I have considered many different options (and tested many as well…), and I am thinking of trying the Kliar coating at last.

This process seems very interesting, but I have heard that it is not as durable as stated. Could it be that the process wasn’t done correctly?

I was also wondering how you would compare this finishing to power coating when it comes to the look and feel of the metal pieces. Would you be able to provide me with a general idea of the difference, if any (besides the process being different of course!).

    Thank you!

  6. If the e-coating is not applied properly, the durability can be significantly weakened. I believe powder coating is typically thicker and has a more “painted” look. The e-coating allows you to coat your jewelry and maintain a metallic feel and look. I have only seen powder coated jewelry and have never actually gone through the process. I would be happy to research the differences more and we can discuss them over the phone. I also run samples for customers, feel free to contact me here at Rio if you would like to have samples processed with e-coating. Hope to hear from you soon! Ashli B Tech

  7. Hello Ms. Brooke,
Thank you very much for the additional information. I am very much interested in having some samples made, that would be amazing, this way I could really see this wonderful process.
I have sent an email to the general email box with my contact information.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
    Julie

  8. will other ovens work for curing….and at what temp. I assume any convection oven

  9. Hi Denis,

A convection oven is preferred. You will need a oven that is dust free, and can hold a specific temperature of 320 F for the colors and 270 F for the transparent. Gas oven and toaster ovens can spike in temperature to heat which can cause discoloration. E-coated pieces are extremely tacky until cured, it is important they do not come into contact with one another or any other surface. Our oven that we carry has been altered to reduce the air circulation to allow several pieces to be cured at once without coming into to contact with one another.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Ashli B. Tech
