The Studio – Jewelry Blog by Rio Grande

Kevin Whitmore

Hi, and thanks for being interested in *ME*! I have learned the jewelry business while working at Rio.  They let me in the door back in 1987. My previous experience included stints at being a radio announcer, a horseback trail guide, door-to-door sales, and repairing bowling pin-setter machines. I sometimes wonder if I would pass the current testing regimen Rio uses to screen potential employees. :^)

I have the best job in the world. I am the product manager for Rio's gemstones and metals divisions. I've done this since 1995, and was lucky enough to add precious metal clay (PMC) as my first addition to the Rio Grande product line. I haven't done anything as good since! I really enjoy understanding the nitty gritty details about metal tempers, gemstone crystal structures and firing techniques for sintering metal clay. A while back I did some early research on co-firing gemstones into silver PMC—a neat intersection of my interests.

In my personal life I am an active "gamer." I enjoy playing Cribbage and Dominoes with my family, and have a regular game night at my home, where friends come by for some fun and visiting.

Okay, now that you've read all about me, you're ready for the puzzle!
