Put on your rose-colored glasses and get ready for a cheerful year ahead. Pantone, the world authority on color trends, just announced its 2014 color of the year—Radiant Orchid. Not quite pink, but not all the way to purple either, Radiant Orchid is lighthearted and fresh.
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.
Each year, Pantone combs fashion runways, the entertainment industry, art trends, even economic forecasts, and distills them all down to one hue that represents the color of the year. It looks like they have a rosy outlook for 2014.
Luckily for jewelers the bright tone marries beautifully with silver and can be found in a range of gemstones and beads.
Here are a few of our favorite things in this lovely hue:
Faceted stones and cabochons make an eye-popping statement.
One of the easiest ways to incorporate the color into your palette.
Those who work primarily in metals can use the color in packaging.
