Thank you to the many talented jewelry makers who entered Rio Grande’s Men’s Jewelry Contest on Pinterest. We’re excited to present the winners to you just in time for Father’s Day!
But first, a little about the contest: We experimented this time with a new format for our online friends, some of whom had never visited Pinterest before. The experiment proved successful and we appreciate your willingness to try something new!
Each contest entrant created a board on Pinterest and populated it solely with images of his or her own men’s jewelry creations. Then they emailed the link to that board to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our judges, Mark Nelson and Sessin Durgham studied the impressive entries, and chose winners based solely on their judgement of great design. Winners were not chosen based on the jewelry maker’s personal information, the number of images included on a board, or whether the entrant was a customer of Rio Grande.
And now, our three talented winners:
First Place: Ivona Psak
Ivona Psak’s Men’s Jewelry Pinterest Board was the clear first place winner for both Sessin and Mark.
Mark found Ivona’s jewelry to be “reminiscent of HR Giger work, [with a] SciFi feel.” He said it was “very cool and original—masculine without being ‘men’s jewelry.'” Ivona Psak definitely designs outside the box, redefining what men’s jewelry can look like. Sessin really appreciated the movement in her work, as well as the allusions in her technique, saying:
“This bold body of work is well-planned with rhythmic wire patterns around heavier manipulated frames of square wire. She has managed to use an ancient basket element to create modern masterpieces.”
We’ve been admiring Ivona’s beautiful work since she was featured as our April “What Are You Working on Now?” contest winner.
Ivona will receive a pair of CraftOptics binocular telescopes with a DreamBeam LED light, which will help her see her work in a comfortable position while creating her elegant, detail-intensive pieces.
Second Place: Carlos Lovato
Congratulations to Carlos Lovato, whose Pinterest Board titled “Accessories for the Righteous and Wicked” won our second place spot!
Mark says that this is “straight up man stuff—and very well executed.” And he can’t help but point out, “Even the title of the page is cool.” (As an editorial side, I have to say that getting a “cool” rating from Mark Nelson is pretty top notch.)
As our Second Place winner, Carlos will receive from Rio Grande a free hot stamp plate, or die, with his logo on it! He will be able to use it on any Rio Grande hot stamp order in the future, or he may keep it for his own use. This opens up many possibilities for packaging his cool jewelry in a great way! We’re imagining a black box with shiny silver logo on top. . .
Third Place: Victoria Jarman
Victoria Jarman’s men’s jewelry board won our third place spot!
Sessin is a big admirer and says, “Simple, elegant wearable designs. I love the bird cuff links.” Mark takes a different but complementary view: “Viking stuff and Star Wars—can’t get more ‘man’ than that.”
We were excited that this contest revealed so much creativity and innovation in men’s jewelry! We have been “repinning” entrants’ photos of men’s jewelry to our Men’s Jewelry Board on Pinterest; if you entered and haven’t seen your images repinned yet, we are coming to yours soon!
We’d love to hear your comments about our winners, and we’d love to hear from Ivona, Carlos, and Victoria themselves! Let us know what you think!
