Just like Santa Claus (but with a slightly different shipping system), we absolutely loooooove giving stuff away. We’re the biggest fans of our customers, and so a lot of our time on social media — including here on the blog — has been focused on giving away free stuff in contests to our online pals!
Here are some examples of what we’ve been up to:
- We were just getting started:
- I had a layover after a flight back home to Utah, and boredom quickly set in as I lounged in the intensely air-conditioned halls of Las Vegas’ McCarran International, so the combination of apathy and a relative naivety about gambling prompted the following:
- While some of us were out in Vegas for the JCK show, we thought it would be fun to buy a pizza for a random Twitter follower to celebrate both the industry’s biggest show and our just having reached six thousand Twitter followers. Here’s how it played out:
Thanks again, Shannon—your chainmail jewelry is awesome, even if I think your taste in Hawaiian pizza is a little iffy.
- If I had to pick a single record to listen to for the rest of my life on some desert island that magically had a record player (probably made out of coconuts), it’d be Prince’s 1987 landmark Sign o’ the Times. Accordingly, whenever I need a random bit of easily Google-able trivia, what better than Prince lyrics? Here’s what happened:

I’m one of those people who called in sick on picture day in elementary school. Having to rest my head on a makeshift staircase rail while my bowl cut—yes, bowl cut—fell over my face in the least flattering way possible, making me look like I’d decided to wear a corn husk broom as a hat as a bold new fashion (or agricultural) statement. But with Instagram, I can take pictures of other people—with a few exceptions.
Anyway, as we got started on Instagram, I got a few snapshots of Mark, Yvonne, and Shelby at their benches (or desk, in Shelby’s case, because she’s totally a square!). I asked people to take pictures of their own benches, desks, or workspaces, and I learned two things: jewelers’ benches are fascinating, and no one has more empty Tupperware lunch containers sitting on their desk than I do.
And here was the winning picture of the bench from metalsmith/designer Ada Rosman, who was also kind enough to leave us a sweet thank-you note:
The Studio – Rio’s Blog
And lastly, right here on The Studio we love to host giveaways and contests. Why, just a couple of weeks ago, I was thrilled when 81 of you shared pictures of your furry companions in our first-ever Shameless Display of Affection Pet Tag Giveaway. Even better, I got to make some new friends, like Chester Longtail Wobblebottom and Tumblr!
Also, you mustn’t forget The Studio’s ongoing monthly, “What Are You Working on Now?” contest, wherein anyone who wants to share a peek of their latest creation gets a chance to win a $10 Rio credit! Best of all, it happens every single month. Join the August contest right now!
So following us in different spots online not only gets you cool jewelry information, behind-the-scenes recon on office shenanigans, links to new content, and up-to-date developments, but it can also help you win some free stuff! Keep following—we’ll see you online!
