I attended Santa Fe Symposium for the first time just last year. I had never considered attending before because I just wasn’t sure it was for me. I loved it! The presentations were informative and interesting, and I learned important information that pertains to what I do. Not to mention, there were people from all walks of the jewelry industry there, from all over the world…what an incredible networking opportunity!

Even though Santa Fe Symposium started as a forum for manufacturers—and still benefits them in a crucial way—it also attracts a wide variety of people whose lives have been positively altered by their penchant for making jewelry. From the emerging artist to the manufacturing guru, this event is well known among jewelers as the powerhouse of jewelry innovation.

Last year’s Symposium featured highly technical and groundbreaking presentations as well as informative trend analyses, quality-control methods, and presentations covering Internet marketing techniques.

This year’s lineup has us raring to go. We have speakers returning to build on their previous research as well as new topics and speakers to keep us all on our toes.

Here’s a peek at a few of them:

Using Essential Trend Analysis to Successfully Align Jewelry Production with Evolving Consumer Demand and Taste, presented by Juliet Hutton-Squire of Adorn Insight

Learn to seek new marketing opportunities and focus on key growth areas. The ability to identify trends in the industry is essential to providing a product that consumers want. In this presentation, Juliet will present a series of real-life case studies that shows the importance of trends and jewelry-specific market intelligence.

Iron Mused/Gold Fused…"The New Iron Age," presented by Chris Nelson

With the increased costs of precious metals, many jewelry artists have decided to explore alternative metals. Some artists have turned to precious metals simply because they want to master a new skill. Since little is known about fusing iron and gold, Chris Nelson will clarify and demystify the processes using pragmatic principle of metalsmithing in a non-technical narrative.

And for the brave of heart (and mind)…

Optimization of SLM Technology Main Parameters in the Production of Gold and Platinum Jewelry, presented by Damiano Zito of Progold

This presentation will illustrate the effect of some selected chemical elements to improve laser radiation absorption and to favor the melting of metallic particles. In addition, the action of the structure and morphology of the supports were examined in order to optimize their density and maintain an adequate thermal dissipation of laser energy.

As you can see from three out of 24 presentations, the Symposium runs the gamut of relevant topics. For anyone in the jewelry industry, this is a must-be-there event. We want to help you to never stop learning, researching, and growing. At Santa Fe Symposium, these pursuits are ongoing.

Make plans now to be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in May for the 2014 Santa Fe Symposium.
