While Rio associates don’t qualify to enter The Saul Bell Design Award Competition, there are plenty of other competitions they can enter. One of them is “All That Glitters,” the jewelry design competition hosted by the New Mexico Jewelers Association. This year’s “All That Glitters” contest brought a level of competition that was extremely high, with astounding designs across nine categories from talented jewelers around the state. Three of our own Rio Associates brought home big prizes and you can see some of the winning pieces on The Studio today!
This year’s Santa Fe Indian Market was another smashing success. For those of you who don’t live in the great state of New Mexico, Indian Market is a 90-year-old tradition celebrating Native American arts and culture. This year, two of Rio Grande’s own were asked to be judges in the jewelry division. Eddie Bell, one of Rio’s directors, was a judge in the Contemporary Jewelry category, and Sessin Durgham, tech expert and craftsman extraordinaire, was a judge in the Pre-Columbian/Beading category.
Today on The Studio: A bunch of us got to attend the big SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) show in Phoenix from May 23-26. We had an awesome time and I took loads of pictures.
